What I Wore: Raccoon Sweater + Mustard Cords

The cold spell continues, but at least I get to wear my Raccoon Sweater a little longer– and it goes so well with my new Mustard Cords from Travelsmith! I looked high and low for a pair this color to virtually no avail, so when I finally stumbled on these I couldn’t pass them up!

What I Wore: Fluff it up with a shearling vest!

I love my fluffy! It has been the perfect piece of winter outerwear! During the months when it’s cold in the mornings / evenings and warm during the sunny part of the day, it’s essential to have a layering piece you can throw on with a variety of outfits, and this faux shearling vest has served it’s purpose beautifully… The cream color is very versatile AND it has pockets!!!

What I Wore: Rocky Raccoon Sweater + Pixie Pants

I can trace my love for music back to “Rocky Raccoon” by a little band called… The Beatles 😉 I have very fond memories of my dad playing it on guitar and bringing me my very first CD – The White Album. To this day, it still pulls emotion out of me: sometimes it fills me with so much joy I can’t help but sing along, and other times I listen to it and cry because it reminds me of all the things I’ve lost. Needless to say, it’s not a song I can listen to every day but I definitely break it out when I need it._ASC6787 _ASC6791 _ASC6794 _ASC6818 Wild Souls: Sugarhill Boutique Raccoon Critter Sweater, White Button Down, Charcoal Grey Pixie Pants, Toms WedgesSugarhill Boutique Critter Sweater (sold out) // White Button Down Tunic // Grey Pixie Pants// TOMS Black Metallic Wedges

OOTD: Boyfriend Romper

We are absolutely IN LOVE with our Boyfriend Romper (the romper version of our Boyfriend Maxi), so named because it is surely as comfortable as wearing your boyfriend’s favorite tee (while looking as cute as your favorite LBD). Romper is complete with dolman style 3/4 sleeves that give the top a “slouchy-cute” look while the drawstring waist flatters your form.

Day 3: Santa Barbara -> Hearst Castle -> Big Sur

After waking up in lovely Santa Barbara, CA we continued our journey up Highway 1. As we took in all the amazing scenery, our Morro Bay, Californiabellies began to growl so we stopped in Morro Bay for lunch… Morro Bay was a very cute little town with some great shops and places to eat, but we decided to dine at  Blue Skye Bistro “On the Bay”. The view of the bay was nice and we could hear seals playing in the harbor (though we never caught a glimpse of one) while we we waited on lunch. I had Shrimp Tacos with grilled potatoes and it was all very good (I couldn’t get enough of the avocados in California).

With food in our bellies we drove further north towards San Simeon and Hearst Castle – this is where the view from Highway 1 really becomes truly breathtaking. We stopped once to take it all in and to pose for a couple of pictures in the disagreeable wind 😉

We made our way to Hearst Castle which was a truly unique and amazing experience! If you ever find yourself on the West Coast I strongly suggest this tour. We learned a lot and it was really fun to tour the grounds afterward on our own. The stories about William Randolph Hearst were very interesting, but I was amazed by the architect, Julia Morgan, who was not only the first female architect in California but who was just king of a badass in general… I very much look forward to reading her biography in the near future.

Highway 1

After Hearst Castle we continued the 90 minute winding, twisting, beautiful drive to Big Sur, CA via Highway 1… to our 2-night home in beautiful Big Sur, CA.

Hotel: Big Sur River Inn – I can’t begin to express my love for this hotel! It’s a truly wonderful place to escape. The rooms were cozy and clean and on the premises there is a nice restaurant, a pub, a pool, a general store, gas pumps, gift shops, and a lovely place to enjoy a meal on the river. The cost is about $150/ a night , but that’s pretty good for Big Sur.

For dinner we had dinner at the River Inn Restaurant and it was absolutely delicious! We started with the Calamari which was some of the best I’ve ever had – caught locally in Monterey 😉 After deliberating over the mouth-watering menu I decided on the “Pasta Castroville” which consisted of chicken and artichokes in a creamy pesto sauce over pasta. Gary had the “Smoked Beef Brisket” both were superb!

What I Wore: I received so many compliments on this outfit! The tank top fit perfectly and these Palazzo Pants are excellent for travel! They don’t wrinkle, so you can just throw them in your suitcase and the waistband was very comfortable for sitting in the car for a large chunk of the day. You can find these and others in our online store at http://www.shopwildsouls.com

Day 1: San Diego, CA

My whole life I’ve had an insatiable wanderlust. I would live in a shack if that’s what I had to do to travel when/where I wanted. However, I do have a husband I must factor in to the equation so the shack is somewhat out of the question. I am blessed to have someone by my side that not only loves to travel, but loves to travel the same way I do… When we go somewhere together we divide our trip in to thirds: 1/3rd activities, 1/3rd relaxation, and 1/3rd eating – drinking.

The Hotel: Marina Inn & Suites  – At $80 a night, the Marina Inn & Suites was definitely a “get what you pay for” hotel. It sits in a great location – you can see the marina from the parking lot and it’s right on the fringe of Little Italy so you can walk to a lot of great restaurants. We were fortunate enough to be placed in one of the newly remodeled rooms (Room #200) so everything was clean. I can’t attest to the rest of the Inn, but our room was fine – though the bed was not very comfortable. The room we were in faced a small alley, so we didn’t have a great view, but it was very quiet. It also seemed like a safe area and if you like to fit in a workout on your vacation, there’s a great place to run on the sidewalk along the marina.

Bali Hai Fishbowl San Diego, California

Having spent some time in San Diego before, my main goal was to see my friend Sarah (who now lives there) and for her to show us some great places to eat and drink. She TOTALLY came through! We started off Saturday (April 26th) by meeting Sarah in our hotel parking lot and she led us on a short walk to Queenstown Public House for brunch. The pineapple orange mimosas were very good and so were the Chicken & Waffles. Since we expressed our love for a good beer, Sarah took us to Thorn St. Brewery I don’t remember the name of the beer I had because I couldn’t get over Sarah’s beer called “Chilecabra” that was SOOO good! Finally we moved on to the Bali Hai Restaurant for a little Polynesian inspired cuisine in the San Diego Harbor. Sarah and I split a fishbowl cocktail and we chowed down on the Wasabi Fries that were great (this comes from a bonafide french fry addict). Overall, it was a great beginning to our trip 😉

What I wore: I knew that we would be walking so I wanted to wear something comfortable.
