Day 2: Los Angeles to Santa Barbara

Cafe Zucchero - San Diego, CA  Food: After a fantastic night’s sleep we decided to go to breakfast in Little Italy. After a search on urbanspoon we found a restaurant called Cafe Zucchero that had a rather yummy sounding menu, so we made the quick walk from our hotel. I had the “Shrimp Benedict” 20140427_081452and it was right on the mark! The english muffin was delicious, the hollandaise was delicious, and the egg and shrimp were cooked perfectly.

After a short walk by the waterside we loaded up and said, “farewell to San Diego and made the drive to LA! This was probably the most touristy day of our trip since we went to straight to Hollywood Blvd where we took pictures at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and the Dolby Theater (where the Academy Awards are held).

Our aim was to get a jump start on our way up Hwy 1 before nightfall, so we left LA for the beginning of our stretch on Hwy 1. We drove through Malibu and up the beautiful west coast until we reached our “crash spot” in Santa Barbara.

Hotel: The Sandman Inn had us pleasantly surprised with it’s well-maintained grounds, clean rooms, and large comfortable beds! If you find yourself in Santa Barbara, I definitely recommend this hotel – at $100/ a night it really can’t be beat. There are two pools (one with hot tub) and the continental breakfast is adequate and set up nicely. In a nice area close to restaurants, a Whole Foods, and a couple of gyms/yoga studios/pilates – There’s also a sidewalk that’s good for running.

Palapa - Santa Barbara, CA Food: After checking in we were in the mood for a beer and some Mexican food, so we found a great little restaurant called Palapa… It was just what we were looking for: The salsa was delicious (made in house), the beers were BIG (and local), and the food was great! I had the Chicken Flautas and everything tasted fresh and well seasoned.

What I Wore: I think we’ve all learned from movies that you’ve got to dress the part, so I went with an outfit that was touristy with a bit of star power 😉

Top: Shutterbug Blouse – Wild Souls
Capris & Tunic Cami: Wild Souls
Shoes: Free People

I ended up wearing these shoes for most of the trip, they were SOOOOO comfortable and required no break in time.
